What a codice fiscale reveals
The sex (day above 40 means female), the date of birth and the place of birth. The year has only two digits, so 05 can be 1905 or 2005: both are shown when both are possible. The full name cannot be recovered: only three letters of the surname and three of the first name are kept.
Example: KWLNNA93S42Z127U is a woman (day 42 = 2 + 40) born on 2 November 1993 in Poland (Z127).
Letters where digits should be
If letters L to V appear among the digits, the code has omocodia: the Agenzia replaced digits (0=L, 1=M … 9=V) so that two people would not share a code. The tool restores the original digits and shows the base code.
Questions
Can I find someone’s name from their codice fiscale?
No. The code keeps only six letters of the name, which fit thousands of people.
Why do I get two possible years?
Only the last two digits of the year are stored, so 10 can mean 1910 or 2010.
